Rust in winter: how to fix blinding snow

September 29, 2026 · 3 min read · Rust

The snow biome is the brightest place on the Rust map. A white field in sunlight hurts your eyes and players in light clothes disappear. Here you need the opposite logic: tone it down, not up.

Why visibility is poor on snow

Snow fills almost the whole frame and is almost white. The monitor shows it at peak brightness, your eyes adapt to the light, and everything dark — buildings, trees, players — looks even darker and less detailed. Raising brightness or gamma only makes it worse.

The right values

SettingNormal daySnow
Brightness10092–94
Gamma1.05–1.10.95–1.0
Saturation155–170%135–140%
Temperature0slightly warmer, +5…+10

A small warm shift removes the blue cast of snow and reduces the blinding feel. Ready-made options: "Rust — Winter" and "Rust — Snow without glare".

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I see players on snow in Rust?

Snow is shown almost white and eats the dynamic range, so dark objects lose detail. Lower brightness and gamma around 1.0 bring it back.

Should I raise saturation in winter?

Moderately — 135–140%. Snow is nearly colorless, and high saturation makes its blue tint unpleasant.

Which preset is best for the snow biome?

"Rust — Snow without glare" in sunny weather and "Rust — Winter" when it is overcast.
