Brightness and gamma in Escape from Tarkov

September 29, 2026 · 3 min read · Shooters & survival

Tarkov is famous for its darkness: forest shadows, basements, dark corridors and night raids. An enemy in dark gear in the corner of a room is nearly invisible. Here is how to open up the shadows.

PostFX in game

Tarkov graphics settings have a PostFX section: brightness, saturation, clarity, colorfulness, luma sharpen and color filters. It is the first tool, and it only works inside the game.

Gamma through the GPU

PostFX raises brightness, but gamma is more precise: it lifts dark tones and barely touches bright ones. That is why many players add gamma 1.3–1.5 through the driver or a DisplayTune profile. The "Tarkov — Shadows" preset: gamma 1.5, brightness 110, saturation 120%.

Night raids

At night, gamma alone is not enough. Options: in-game NVGs plus a separate night profile from the Night vision group ("Night vision", "Moonlight"). Switch profiles with a hotkey when you load into a night raid.

What to avoid

Survival game profiles in DisplayTune

Presets "Tarkov — Shadows", "DayZ — Night", SCUM, Hunt: Showdown, 7 Days to Die, Arma 3, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and the Night vision group. The profile turns on by itself when the game starts. First day free.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make Tarkov brighter?

Raise PostFX brightness and add gamma 1.3–1.5 through the driver or DisplayTune (the "Tarkov — Shadows" preset).

PostFX or driver gamma — which is better?

Both together: PostFX for overall tone and saturation, gamma for the shadows.

Is gamma bannable in Tarkov?

Gamma is changed by the GPU, like monitor calibration. The app does not interfere with the game.
