Rust nights are long and can be pitch black, especially without a moon. Players with torches and flashlights are visible; the one sitting in the dark is not. Proper gamma changes that.
Brightness or gamma?
Brightness lifts the whole image, blacks included — the picture turns grey and flat. Gamma lifts mostly dark and mid tones and barely touches bright ones. So at night you work with gamma and only nudge brightness.

How not to blow out the sky
- Do not raise contrast at night — it crushes the shadows again.
- Use gamma above 2.0 only in the darkest phase: sky, fires and lights start to clip.
- Keep saturation at 105–120% so the profile is not neon at dawn.

What gamma is best for Rust at night?
Start with 1.6 ("Rust — Night"). If it is still too dark — 1.75–1.9. Above 2.0 the image gets flat and bright objects clip.
Is brightening the night a cheat?
It is a monitor and GPU setting, like the gamma slider in the driver panel. The game, its memory and files are untouched.
